Did you all know that if you havnt taken her back to her Father..she will NEVER not Follow you. Meaning if you do Quest from say...The Companions, where you HELP one of them do a Quest...Serana will follow you anyway and fight with you. I guess she doent trust you enough yet to not Follow.
I gave a pretty good example. When you get Serana...don't take her home. Then do one of the other Quests that require you to take them along like the Werewolf task where a Companion joins you for an event. Serana will be Kicked out of your Group...but she will STILL Follow you and Help. Now..Don't Finish the Companion Task or the Serana Task..you can STILL have a Dog (or the Dwarf Sphere..my Fav) and the Horse Arvak. That's four Creatures that help you in Fights...the Companion and Serana cant DIE..the Sphere can get a new one in 24 Hours..just Re Summon Avrak.
I have finished both Serana and the Companions. Serana is still a good choice. Not sure if she is Killable after her Father is put Down. But she is one tough Cookie. I also love using the Dwarven Sphere as it is a Beast on Damage output and if it Breaksdown..just go get another one in a Day. For a Fast 3rd..Pop out the Sanguine Rose..for some Dremora Help. Then summon of the the available Helpers like the Ghost Assassin of the Werebear!!...Once I summoned the Dragon in a Dungeon..(now THAT was Fun to Watch).
Serana is definetly one of the best follower choices in terms of power. The only thing that annoys me is the bloody ash piles she leaves everywhere. She has absolutely no sense of cleanlines. Not to mention she has to ressurect everything. Still though, she never dies, which is nice. I hate having Erik the Slayer, or a Housecarl, or one of the Companions, and constantly having to worry about whether they were killed by the Giant that sent them to Secunda.

Me: "Please come with me, please, please, please!"
Serana: "I would, but because you have Frea with you, and I'm all jelly, I'm not gonna follow you until you tell her to go back to that ash-ridden island she calls her home."
I have a glitch that will let you use Serana and any other follower at the same time, even after the Dawngaurd questline.
Do you know how to perform it? I would love to be able to have multiple followers. As you know, consoles don't support mods.
I did this on Xbox so it's not a mod, so get Serana, (Serana has to be one of the followers, I tested it with others.) and bring her to wherever the other follower lives. Then dismiss Serana and quickly recruit the other one, then quickly recruit Serana again or vice versa. This always takes me a couple of tries, the two followers work perfectly normal, I should also point out that (rarely) if you are using a melee follower as well as Serana, they may get in the way of Serana's magic and if she hits them a few times, they will turn on eachother. If that happens rfeload to the lasts ave.
I would just like to point out, that Serana can already be made a second follower with any optional follower you want. All you have to do, is well the three times I've done it, is start the Dawnguard questline with no followers, join the Volkihar clan, complete the questline, travel to the companions, & start Proving Honor. She will not be dismissed as a follower (though it says she is) when Farkas comes along with you. She will still follow you everywhere, & even do the quest with you.
Once the quest is finished she will always remain your follower but the game doesn't "count her as one" she continues to keep all of her normal dialogue, commands, except for "I need you to do something" but the optional follower you choose can always do that instead. I have followed this same pattern on three different characters & all result in the same thing, Serana as a follower, & player choice of any second follower they want.
You can't ever tell her to part ways though, I mean the option is still there & you can. But if you do, then it breaks any chance of ever having two followers again. This has all been done on ps3 Legendary Edition btw with 1.9 so it should work for anybody. As a side note, I have never tried this with joining the Dawnguard, I've always chosen the Volkihar Clan, so I don't really know if this works if somebody joins them.
Go to the Volkihar Undercroft. Serana will spawn as your follower, even if you already have one. (I think I've only ever done this after completing the Dawnguard questline. Dunno if it'd work earlier.)
Yeah. I have kharjo and Serana because I went to the Soul Cairn to complete the mission retrieve Arvak's skull and she went with me, then after I had completed the quest her and Carter are still part of my party I can even trade items with them. I also did this after completing the Dawnguard questline after defeating Harkon
Ive always used the azura companion. After I completed all the dawnguard questlines and leveled up 30+ times.. I returned to the castle and went into the soul cairn. Serena was my follower again without requesting her. After I left the soul cairn she remained my follower along with my original follower. Hope this works for someone else too.
I’ve currently got Cicero, Mjoll (the wife), Shadowmere and Serena in my Gang of Five and wondering whether it’s worth finishing the Dawnguard questline or just keeping her as a follower indefinitely. Oh yeah, and Brian the Skeleton makes six.
I've been playing on the Switch with Vilkas and Serana both following me as part of each of their respective quests, after decimating half of Skyrim I decided to progress their quests i.e took her to meet her father and then completed the companions quest. Since doing this I've been able to recruit them both again without either of them being dismissed. Looks like a bug but I'm going to roll with it
Looks like since she just decided herself that she's gonna go with the (untollowed) dragonborn, that she's technically not a requested follower. After she started following for her Moth quest purposes, I went to the dogs and told Sceolang that he can help me go kill vampires, and he started following too. So now I have both of them on my side.
(Apologies if I'm not supposed to bump an old thread)
Yeah not to beat a dead horse but I have lvl 100 Conjuration, and the Chief of Thirsk Hall allows you to recruit a coupla random Rieklings, regardless of Solstheim or Skyrim. Plus 2 DB initiates with Cicero and Serana.
