I built the home in falkreath, and put glass display cases in it. Now, I can open and close the cases, but I can't put anything in them?? Any one know if this is on purpose or a bug ?? and how I can fix it.

That's the way it is. You have to drop the item out if your inventory, and pick it up and drop it in the display case. They never were interactive like the ones found in the regular houses.
Hold the activate button (a or cross etc) down for a few seconds to grab the item and press the same button again to let go, careful though a lot of people find things drop out of displays and can be lost for good you might only want to put replaceable items in them.
You'll also note that dropping things, placing them where you want them, and coming back later will make the object(s) you dropped return to where they were dropped. You'll have to do the decorating again. I don't know if this was fixed in a patch (I have the base game), though. Some things do it repeatedly. I've lost count of the times the numerous dragon claws have fallen off the shelf. I'm on the verge of packing them all in a container so I don't have to deal with it anymore. Be careful with buying all your decorations at once, too. I did it with Breezehome this time, and the weapon display racks won't accept any weapons. There's not even any prompt to activate the damn things. Going back to before I bought the décor is simply not an option; I bought it 50 levels ago. Shame.
Items returning to their drop place is not fixed and it's a recurring "bug", but there's a somehow easy solution. Drop on the ground all the items you want to place and don't touch them, then exit the house and enter it again. You can now place them where you want and they will not move no matter how much time passes. Remember, if you accidentally pick up an item to your inventory, then you have to exit and re-enter the house again after dropping it. Cellars in homesteads don't count as exiting the house, I'm not sure why (tested in Lakeview Manor); this is especially annoying if you want to decorate your cellar, since you have to go all the way outside and then back in the cellar.
I tried to display the Ghostblade and the "Red" blade (I don't recall it's actual name but it was found in the Final Descent quest). I tried dropping and leaving and when I came back the Ghostblade was gone, and the "Red" blade was again on the top of the case. I tried putting the "Red" blade in the weapon rack but it wouldn't stay. So now it is in a chest in the armory room.
I dropped about 500 flawless gems into a display case, one at a time, mind. Closed the lid and left. When I came back days later (in game days, of course) I walk in the room and the display case is still closed but the top of the case is mounded with gems, flowing off and onto the floor.
The display case is seriously glitched up.
