  • So I recentyl made a new mage and as quickly as I could raised her enchantment level to 100, enchanted her armor with some pretty powerful enchantments. These were robes so they have no armor rating.

As far as I know the alteration perk "Mage Armor" is the only reason for a mage to not wear armor, perhaps with the exception of your sneaking suffering, but I always roll light armor. So on to my question, since I don't really do Alteration(Might get magic resistance at some point), and never uses any of the flesh spells, should I just roll light armor instead of robes? I am almost pure destruction at the moment.

Also I want to know how you guys play your mages.

    • Go with heavy armor, Since it doesn't really matter how fast you are as a mage, especially not destruction, paralyze spell is usefull though, so you can stop enemies from getting TO close.

I like my mage (sneaky mage though :P) to concentrate around the following skills: Light armor, One handed, Alteration, Destruction, Sneak. So i can sneak upon people, if i don't insta kill em i can paralyze them, place a rune, slice em into pieces, if they still won't die they probably will by the rune i placed before.

Hopefully you got a good idea what to do now.

    • I won't go with heavy armor. Mostly becuase the armor rating is unecesarry, in the long run the armor rating of light armor is just as good. I don't need to worry about people getting too close as any melee enemy is killed off by my thunderbolt before they get anywhere close to me.

My only problem is bows and soon, crossbows, not that I've gotten to the Dawnguard yet. And Fire won't be able to touch me, even as a vampire.

Though I guess I might go with Light armor and a one-handed sword on the side, just in case.

    • I use light armor for most of my characters because I'm kind of impatient and I don't like going slow. So my mages are often glass canons.

    • Its ironic how Glass Armor doesn't make you a glass cannon but a tanking beast equivalent to full Daedric set once it stacks to an armor rating of 567 or higher.

    • My character uses magic along with heavy armor. It isn't too much of a disadvantage once you level up your mage skills and obtain the perks. Especially if you already have tons of fortify magicka effects on you.

Ever since I discovered there is an armor cap of 567, I made it a core policy to go for whatever the lightest can brings my armor closest to 567. If I need Daedric to reach 567, I will use daedric but once I can go over 567, I'll start to look for ways to lighten my armor.

    • Light armor can you to 567 without slowing you down and leaving inventory space open. My new mage can't enchant good enough yet so I am wearing a robe plus light armor at the moment. Normally when I die I don't think much could have saved me. Oh look a dragon, and now a gaint and two mammoths want me dead.....

Since my character is pretty sneaky even when I roll a mage, situations like that is near non-existent for me. But when it happens, I usually drop an atronach and run straight for the nearest town/village while choking on stamina potions or purple mountain flowers
