Ban lengths Edit

Hi, is it possible you can edit the chat scripts to hide the "2 hours" and "1 day" ban lengths? Per blocking policy, the first ban has to be 3 days, but some mods still ban for less than that. Thanks. [please reply to my talkpage, thanks] --SuperSajuuk Talk Page | Tabber Code | Channel 20:05, July 13, 2014 (UTC)

Sorry I'm really struggling finding a good window here, so I think we have to take the slow approach and use the talk page instead. — Flightmare @Wikia (talk) 14:35, February 9, 2015 (UTC)
That's fine. I've left a message further down your talkpage and I'll leave chat open if you are able to hop in it (it'll only take about 5 mins [if that]) for a spell [please excuse all the messages :P]. --Sajuuk talk | contribs | Channel 14:39, February 10, 2015 (UTC)

Interactive Map Edit

Really impressive work! I was working on image-editing on Nukapedia a little over a year ago, but got so frustrated trying to discern exact coordinate variables. Your work is much more professional looking, and seems to be automated when it comes to pinning map keys. Is there any way you can go over its creation with me, so that I can add something similar to Nukapedia? Credit, of course, would be given. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 21:10, July 22, 2014 (UTC)

Actually, scratch that. At first, I was unsure if we needed to activate a plug-in or similar - but I see that there is a Wikia dedicated towards bringing these maps onto individual wikis. Sorry to bother you, and thank you for helping bring this feature to my attention. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 21:15, July 22, 2014 (UTC)
No problem, you simply have to enable maps in Special:WikiFeatures and you're good to go. — Flightmare @Wikia (talk) 21:18, July 22, 2014 (UTC)
Good stuff. :) As much as Wikia frustrates me many days, I have to admit there are a few really nice features that pop up every now and again to help me forget those frustrations. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 21:31, July 22, 2014 (UTC)

Could we talk? Edit

Could you come on IRC? Same network as usual, if you remember. Join #space. Thanks Elchzard (talk) 21:19, July 22, 2014 (UTC)

You might want to take a look at the Jimeee reconfirmation. We have users fabricating rules (the forum creator), and we have users under the misconception that we follow Wikipedia policies that have not been voted on here by the community. An Administrator really should address this issue, as it seems a portion of the community is ignorant of how Wikia guidelines and policies work here. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 20:54, August 8, 2014 (UTC)

I am officially asking for you to step in and look into the user SuperSajuuk. Not only was he directly involved in the incident above, in which he broke TES policies by disrupting wiki consensus, but he has also taken to removing messages from my talk-page. This user clearly has an agenda, and him vandalizing my talk-page is the last straw for me. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required!
As a note, I am forwarding this from another Admins TP, as it appears she has been away for a bit. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 21:33, August 8, 2014 (UTC)

GarouxBloodline Edit

Despite many messages and notices to stop restoring a message that violates Wikia TOU, GarouxBloodline persists in restoring the message that consists of threats and is clearly mini-modding. The repeated restoration of his messages is now harassment and I would like a sysop to step in and tell him to stop. I'd also like the individual revisions in my talkpage history between me and Garoux removed as they are needlessly padding my edit count. --SuperSajuuk Talk Page | Tabber Code | Channel 22:16, August 9, 2014 (UTC)

Another admin has already agreed to look into this and mediate the entire situation - I find it disrespectful that he is trying to go behind her back before she has a chance to come back today and resolve the matter. Just so you know, in-case you do not notice. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 16:10, August 10, 2014 (UTC)
I'm not going behind anyone's back Garoux. Stop making up nonsense to suit yourself. I find Flightmare more approachable in this issue. Do not reply to this message --SuperSajuuk Talk Page | Tabber Code | Channel 16:32, August 10, 2014 (UTC)
Just to avoid confusion, the admin in question is Ebony. She said she should be in later tonight to discuss everything. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 16:34, August 10, 2014 (UTC)
I see it has been resolved now, but just to be clear: Talk pages don't get blanked except for archiving. — Flightmare @Wikia (talk) 08:57, August 11, 2014 (UTC)

Common.js junk Edit

So I was taking a look at the wiki's Common.js and it seems it is burdened with a LOT of junk. For example, we are loading javascript files for collapsible tables, despite the fact we already have built in collapsible table functions in MediaWiki itself! Is it possible you can come on chat so I can discuss this further ? I feel this is a leading cause for Special:WikiActivity being incredibly slow to load. Thanks. --SuperSajuuk Talk Page | Tabber Code | Channel 21:10, August 10, 2014 (UTC)

I think those collapse scripts were originally written for the book-template(s). They behave somewhat different but I agree they can be dropped. The book-templates have to be updated first. I don't think they have any impact on Special:WikiActivity as it used to be much more fast before. Furthermore, javascript relies on client computing speed, not server. It looks like Activity page is slowed down by the servers again. — Flightmare @Wikia (talk) 08:48, August 11, 2014 (UTC)
If it was client side, then it would be happening on every Wikia, but it's only on TES Wiki where the WikiActivity is incredibly slow to load: elsewhere is fast. --SuperSajuuk Talk Page | Tabber Code | Channel 09:19, August 11, 2014 (UTC)
With javascript disabled, loading takes equally long for me. It is caused by how wiki's are distributed over server clusters. Other wiki's run on different servers which are likely to be less crowded. — Flightmare @Wikia (talk) 09:37, August 11, 2014 (UTC)
So the slow loading is due to the specific server this wiki is based on? I'm surprised they're not moving this wiki to a less crowded server to make it faster. :/ --SuperSajuuk Talk Page | Tabber Code | Channel 09:41, August 11, 2014 (UTC)

Protect Edit

Can you protect this archive ? Another user seems to find it funny by playing around with it, despite an obvious notice to not edit archives. Thanks. --SuperSajuuk Talk Page | Tabber Code | Channel 17:43, August 11, 2014 (UTC)

Oblivion NPC templateEdit

Hey Flightmare, I updated the template to allow more information to the template itself I think it looks good. However I reverted my edits because it affects the current template for Oblivion characters. And the new one will need to be added instead to all pages to look right. Can you possibly revert the edits back & run a bot to add the new one? Otherwise I'd have to do all 1,133 characters by hand. Thanks. Ȼǿᵰᵮẽᵲ ₲ħǿśᵵ Ⱥᵰᵾᵬĭᵴ Đẽẽᵭᵴ 23:23, August 22, 2014 (UTC)

Hope you are feeling better now! Just wondering why we have this abusefilter when you tag articles for deletion, it's pretty pointless if you ask me and can be quite annoying for other users. Hey Flight! I just thought I'd let you know that KINMUNE seems to be malfunctioning. She's leaving and reentering chat at least five times a minute. I don't think it has anything to do with Wikia, either, as chat is somewhat stable. Can you use some of your awesome coding magic on her? dpl question Edit

Hi Flight. I understand you've been quite busy as of late, but if you see this, I've a question. Do you know if DPL has a parameter that only displays pages that have been protected from editing? If not, would you know exactly how to tell DPL only to list pages that are locked. --SuperSajuuk Talk Page | Tabber Code | My Contribs | Channel 20:50, January 1, 2015 (UTC)

I don't know of such a parameter, but there might be some possibilities when fetching data from Special:ProtectedPages with JS or maybe even DPL itself. DPL documentation isn't always at its best unfortunately and since there are multiple DPL plugins around you sometimes get the wrong tutorial. Good luck! — Flightmare @Wikia (talk) 21:15, January 1, 2015 (UTC)
Or maybe the API can help you out. — Flightmare @Wikia (talk) 21:31, January 1, 2015 (UTC)
Thanks Flight! Yeah, I think the API is what I'll need to look into using. I suspect it won't work within DPL, but I'll play around a little with the API. Cheers and a Happy New Year! :) --SuperSajuuk Talk Page | Tabber Code | My Contribs | Channel 21:32, January 1, 2015 (UTC)
Good luck with the API (it is far better anyway) and a happy new year yourself! — Flightmare @Wikia (talk) 21:38, January 1, 2015 (UTC)

question re: site js Edit

Hi. I'm looking at the wiki's javascript file but I'm not really understanding what some of the scripts were for. If you aren't too busy, I will be in chat so I can ask there, but if too busy, just let me know and I can ask here on your tp... --SuperSajuuk Talk Page | Contribs | Channel 15:33, January 12, 2015 (UTC)

Did you have any specific scripts in mind? Too bad not all of them are documented. — Flightmare @Wikia (talk) 16:29, January 12, 2015 (UTC)
The ones I was thinking of were these: MediaWiki:Common.js/navfix.js (I don't even see the effects of this...), MediaWiki:Common.js/autolock.js (this is obvious, but there's already a unified script that can replace it), MediaWiki:Common.js/USERNAME.js (useless because the main js already has this code) and probably a few other pages that are scripts on this wiki and not imported that don't make any sense to have. There's also a range of functions within the main js that don't seem to make any sense or have zero effect on the wiki as well. --SuperSajuuk Talk Page | Contribs | Channel 16:32, January 12, 2015 (UTC)

crisis ... Edit

Hi Flightmare. If you can join our wiki's chat, it would be vastly appreciated. You may already be aware about what's happened on the wiki today, but I'll discuss more on the chat. --SuperSajuuk Talk Page | Contribs | Channel 19:17, January 16, 2015 (UTC)

Thanks! Edit

Thanks once again for unblocking my account on TES Wiki! As you are a sysop on the wiki, I was wondering if you could nominate a user that you believe should become a sysop here to replace the 3 lost sysops of Ghost, Tomb and Ebony. Thank you :) --SuperSajuuk Talk Page | Contribs | Channel 20:26, January 18, 2015 (UTC)

^ Just bumping this notice so that we can get a new sysop on the wiki. It might be appropriate to appoint a new crat as well just to work alongside Tim. --Sajuuk talk | contribs | Channel 14:10, January 19, 2015 (UTC)
I'll have a look into it. The timing is quite bad unfortunately. I have a big deadline this friday so I can't promise anything to happen this week, but I'll surely have a look into this on short term. At least I'm likely to have extra time available starting next monday. — Flightmare @Wikia (talk) 16:40, January 19, 2015 (UTC)
Cool. Thanks! And hopefully something can be sorted, at least short term, until people become less busy :) --Sajuuk talk | contribs | Channel 16:42, January 19, 2015 (UTC)

rights Edit

Hey Flightmare! I would like to request you to update the flags on our forum moderators. As you may be aware, Wikia has created a proper forum moderator group, which you can find here. All you need to do is remove rollback and forummoderator from our forum mods and then grant the Moderators flag. Thanks! --Sajuuk talk | contribs | Channel 13:45, January 22, 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for updating! But I don't believe forum mods need rollback now, since they have the "walledit" right, which is checked in the code for whether the user can edit anyone's posts. Rollback isn't required (nor should it even be checked in the code imo o.O) --Sajuuk talk | contribs | Channel 22:08, January 23, 2015 (UTC)

Hi Flightmare. This is Brandon from Wikia. A few days ago, I sent you an email (using the email address in your account) inviting you to join our Fan Studio program. Did you receive this email? We would love to have you as part of the Fan Studio, so if you didn't get the email, just let me know and I'll send it again. Thanks! - Brandon Rhea@Wikia(talk) 04:52, January 23, 2015 (UTC)

Input requested Edit

Hey Flight,

We have a conversation regarding what we should do in order to seek out the best Admins possible. We are hoping that you can give your weight to the conversation.

The link above is where the idea being discussed was brought up. We also have another conversation going on you may want to read if you have the time.

I hope that live is treating you well. Thanks and happy Editing.-Cheatcodechamp (talk) 22:51, January 23, 2015 (UTC)

the highlighted thread Edit

Hey. The system is chewing up my posts (they're obviously going through but only partially) when I try to post in that highlighted thread, so I'll just post here what I was trying to say:

To summarise my opinion: a voting system to grant flags makes everything sound like we are voting them into a political position, which creates a hierarchy that a wiki should not exist. Personally, if the system was moved over to one that promoted discussion between the community (even using the forums for this) where users could give evidence for why they think a user should or should not be given a flag, things would be smoother, friendlier and nobody would get hated on. Voting just seems like the lazy way out and makes it more like a popularity contest.
Feel free to reply here (or if you can, post it in the thread as a quote) or on chat. :) --Sajuuk talk | contribs | Channel 22:28, January 24, 2015 (UTC)

No problem! Always glad to help out with link fixes like that. :) --Sajuuk talk | contribs | Channel 22:48, January 24, 2015 (UTC)

Template Help Edit

Hey Flight. How do I make a collapse template that I can use on infoboxes? I'm trying to add all of the Location IDs for locations in Skyrim, but some places have quite a few and it looks a little chaotic (take a look at Fort Neugrad to see what I'm talking about); I'm hoping to make it look a little more visually appealing. Thanks! ―Atvelonis (talk) 22:47, January 26, 2015 (UTC)

Most commonly used on tables, you have to give it the collapsible class:
{| class="wikitable collapsible"
Flightmare @Wikia (talk) 17:00, January 29, 2015 (UTC)
Just thought I should point out that the "collapsible" class doesn't exist within MediaWiki any longer (only just noticed that). It's now referred to as "mw-collapsible" instead, but I could be wrong on the former. --Sajuuk talk | contribs | Channel 18:33, February 3, 2015 (UTC)

Re: talkpage Edit

Hey, that's fine. I was just wanting to remind you of what was discussed a couple of weeks ago on chat about promoting to patroller for a sysop nomination to become valid.

EDIT: If chat isn't possible, might it be appropriate to discuss it on Steam/Skype if you've got access to those tools? I'm fine with using talkpages, but might be easier if a private communication medium is available. --Sajuuk talk | contribs | Channel 18:49, February 9, 2015 (UTC)

Hey Flightmare, I was wondering if you'd make me a template for weapons in the Travels series. There is already one for characters, but none for weapons, and I can't get the hang of making them. Your Brother in Arms (talk) 04:50, February 13, 2015 (UTC)

Fixing KINMUNE Edit

Hey Flightmare. It seems it's been a year since KINMUNE stopped functioning. I was just wondering if there is anyway you could get her back to a regular state anytime soon or let me know if that isn't possible. It looks like we could use her/it back to recording the chat soon. ☞ Rim < Talk | Updates | Edits > 03:33, April 8, 2015 (UTC)

On short terms there won't be much possible. The chat changed a lot and so there is much that needs fixing. I gave it a low priority since chat had so much downtime last year that it wasn't even worth fixing at that point. I can't promise anything yet, but I'll be looking into it next week. — Flightmare @Wikia (talk) 09:28, April 8, 2015 (UTC)
There isn't much need to record the chat. Hardly "any" rule violations are occurring and the chat is hardly used anyway. So I don't see much need in recording the chat, it'll record nothing but blank conversations.
As you can see, chat mods are very rarely banning people, which should indicate that rule violators aren't common. --Sajuuk talk | contribs | Channel 09:33, April 8, 2015 (UTC)

Infobox BetaEdit

Hi there! I’m Andrew, one of the community managers at Wikia. If you don’t know me, here’s my CC profile. I like baseball, laying on the beach with no plans or goals for the day, and climbing things.

We have a new beta project out, and since it's going to be critical to Wikia's future, we're asking for your help.

We want to partner with your community (and a couple others) and collaborate on a redesign of your existing infoboxes. It’s not a small task, but it’s one that we think we can get done relatively quickly and efficiently. Our engineers - both here in San Francisco and in Poland - will get hands-on with your community and work with your team to redesign the infoboxes.

You can read more here in the forum (and head to the sandbox to give it a whirl), but the tl:dr version: our current infobox structure translates very poorly to mobile experiences, and mobile is where Wikia’s growth lies. We came up with a solution that will take a bit of effort, but will pay significant dividends in the near future. What we're hoping is that we can use this community to test out its strengths and limitations while we get it from “beta” to “full feature”.

What you get out of the deal:

  • Wikia engineers who will work directly with your community to update the code that underpins your infoboxes
  • Access to staff for feedback, and our promise that your ideas will be taken seriously
  • A head-start on this change and therefore a significant upgrade in your community’s visibility

What we get out of the deal:

  • Several fresh sets of eyes that can help us understand how this will be used by the average Wikian
  • A test community that will let us track how the new infobox structure is used by visitors and viewers
  • The opportunity to share this initiative’s successes (and failures, I’m sure!) with the wider Wikia community and show them that it’s a smart plan for our shared mobile future

Please talk this over with your admin team and let me know. I’m happy to answer any and all questions about this - please use my wall or just keep the conversation going here.

Ducksoup (talk) 01:55, May 20, 2015 (UTC)

RE: Infobox Beta Edit

We are not opposed to the idea, we just have questions and we want/need to make sure the community is OK with this. We have gotten them involved in smaller things in the past, us being a beta for infoboxes is a little bigger.

How about you? You think we should do this?-Cheatcodechamp (talk) 22:08, May 20, 2015 (UTC)

I've read the related thread on CC. It looks like it is far from done right now and some of our more sophisticated templates like DragonShouts will probably not work at first. If we do opt in however, we can apply some pressure so they will make tables like these possible. It's probably better than not joining and facing the change unprepared, when it's rolled out globally. My only question would be if we can have both the new and old system in use at the same time (I suppose it does) so we can test this on the less complicated templates like SkyrimNPCs. — Flightmare @Wikia (talk) 23:25, May 20, 2015 (UTC)
I like the idea of making infoboxes more mobile-friendly. Well, infoboxes don't exactly cause problems on mobile, but it's a pain to have to scroll through them to get to the actual article, especially with the longer ones. I looked at some of the examples Ducksoup posted on the Community Test Wiki on both mobile and desktop; it seems a fair bit more efficient to me, although a couple things could be changed. —Atvelonis (talk) 01:50, May 21, 2015 (UTC)
