Lord Harkon, leader of the Volkihar Clan

For other uses, see Volkihar Clan.

The Volkihar Clan are a faction of vampires, led by Lord Harkon, the main antagonist in The Elder Scrolls V: Dawnguard.

They reside in a large fortress that rests on a secluded island in the Sea of Ghosts, known as Castle Volkihar. If the Dragonborn joins the Volkihar Vampires, the castle can be used as a home. If they side with the Dawnguard, however, the Dawnguard will storm the castle and wipe out the clan.

The bloodline began with Lord Harkon after he pledged himself to the Daedric Prince Molag Bal, and in his name, he sacrificed thousands of innocents. In return, Molag Bal granted him immortality by turning him and his entire family into pure-blood vampires. They went on to become the progenitors of the clan.[1]

  • Harkon is the lord of the Volkihar Clan.
  • Once Lord Harkon is defeated, the Dragonborn (if they are a Vampire Lord) becomes the new Lord of the Vampires. If the Dragonborn is not a vampire, the title should transfer to Valerica.
  • Harkon and his family are technically royalty, even if the kingdom in which they reign is no more.
  • Vingalmo and Orthjolf are Harkon's advisors, and the highest-ranking members of the court outside of the royal family.
