Which ranks higher in defense? I have 100 Smithing, Enchanting, and Alchemy if that helps. I was also wondering if the Ebony Helm + Falmer Helm + Circlet is useful if you don't use very many exploits.

Mytardis wrote: oh nevermind, I wasn't adding up all of the gear, but stating the chestplate defense itself. That's still unbelieveable though. Is your armor skill (heavy/light) 95+? I smithed all of my daedric gear myself, as well as enchanted and made potions myself (before resetting skills) with these stats, and I guess I should add my heavy armor skill is 78 with 4/5 perks into Juggernaut (80% better armor rating):
Alchemy gear (necklace, circlet, ring, and gloves): all 29% better alchemy totalling 116%
to create these potions:
127% improved smithing and 32% improved enchantments
to craft these:
Daedric Bow: 297 damage - paralyze 3 seconds, 29 shock damage
" Mace: 225 damage - paralyze 3 seconds, 29 fire damage
" Mace: 225 damage - paralyze 3 seconds, 29 shock damage
" Armor: 411 defense - +72 health, 36% faster health regen
" Boots: 195 defense - +43 carry weight , +47% sneak
" Gloves: 195 defense -+43 carry weight, one-handed +47%
Circlet: +47% bow damage, +72 magicka
Ring: +47% sneak, 23% magic res
Amulet: +43 carry weight, +23% magic res
(and on the side, another amulet with +47% lockpicking and pickpocketing)
For a total of 801 defense, and again I avoided exploits (I think). I guess this proves dragonbone may be the better armor between the two, or it may prove Bethesda custom creates each game disc to create some characters better than others? I'm not saying that you're lying, but with what gear you described, it doesn't seem possible that your defense is that high. I might just have to grind my smithing skill back to 100 and create some dragonbone gear to re-compare. Dammit I'm so curious (and frustrated) now. Not your fault though (I hope).
No daedric wins you just may not have all the perks he has https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Vs8QYrU0Vlo

Remember the armour cap is 567 (80% physical damage resistance), so with good smithing, potion's, enchanted smithing equipment and some high armour perk's a lot of the armour's, light or heavy, can reach the armour cap. An armour rating above 567 will not improve physical damage resistance.
On my old save I was OP and had a armor rating of over 1m and I took no damage from anything so yes getting over the armor cap does make a difference at damage but I got bored with that file so I deleted it but my point is that you can get over the armor cap and it does make a difference
Well, i guess, this has proven, that it doesn't really matter? It is just, a matter of preference? Therefore, you could just go with the flow, and role play a little? For example, i had an Argonian theif character, used dragon scale armor, not that i needed it, because i was never really in open combat with anyone more than those which i was wearing? Or, a Dwemer role play character, a heavy armor mage, could not be more efficient at clearing a room, with enchanted dwarven armor, coming in at around 894 armor rating (yes, i know it caps at 80% physical damage resistance). Hell, i even pulled ot off with full vampire armor, and atherial crown, with just over the cap, at 572 for the armor rating, because vampire class (good times were had with Serana btw). So, again, if you really can pull it off with an enchantment+alchemy combo, then all armor comes down to asthetic prefernces...
I do like the look of the Daedric better though, but I assume you can get the same armor rating and dmg. doing what I did. The difference is purley a personal preference in my opinion just because the armors themselves are so close in base rating.
>> Note: What I mean by legit is all potions were found in game as well as armor inhanced for smithing in game. I wouldn't know how to mix a potion, (never did alchemy) nor do any of these loop things people talk about on here. (Straight up play the game without the glitches and blah blah....)<<
Oh and that IS my character as my avatar.....
That is splendid, but the armor cap is fixed at 542 or 567 with a shield (80% damage reduction). The other 774 armor raing you have is sadly useless.
In all reality it comes down to wanting the armor with the most defense but weapons with less damage and the heaviest, or armor that protects you less than daedric that have weapons doing more damage and are much lighter than daedric armor. Such minor differences but i'd say dragonbone gear has the most benefits altogether. Think about it its lighter, you'll most likely have your armor capped at the max 80% dmg reduction so why waste time with daedric, the weapons do more damage, in addition you will find dragonbones and scales more frequently than you would daedra hearts, sure you can grind for them at mehrunes shrine, but that's only 4 you'll still have to spend more money, and for dragon alls you have to do is kill a dragon and its free picking. AND not to mention its only a 3.5% armor difference, so you're not losing much by switching to the lighter armor and you'll still cap your armor at its max. And it just looks badass as hell, I like to think "I get to wear a little bit of my victims" :)
>.<
The stendarrs also will try to kill you
At the end of the day it's all a matter of preference like everyone else said here. But the preference is still for Dragon. Considering that once you reach the cap at 567 every armor has the same value, the real advantage of dragon above daedric is on the weapons and damages, which is higher, and as I knew, damage hasn't a cap :)
I used my enchantement skill to get +25% smithing on armor, ring, neckless and bracers. so its +100% without any alchemy. My goal is to get as high numbers as possible. For this i will need alchemy to get to 100, to get some +enchatements and +smithing potions. First i will upgrade my smithing gear so it wouldnt do +25% but more, and then I will use blacksmith potions to get as close as I can to +200% smithing (right now i found 2x +50% smithing potions), so now I can do +150% smithing without any alchemy.
My gear (full dragon):
Armor: 527 +25heavy armor skill on the item via enchantement
Boots: 230
Gauntlets: 230
Helmet: 262
heavy armor tree is at 95/100 (all maxed except the last one) my heavy armor total skill is 120 (max with current gear 125).
Total I have 1250 armor rating,
my dragonscale (light) is at 318 armor rating at lvl 75 without any perks in it

Difference between dragon and deadric in one handed sword is: dragon 158dmg, deadric 154dmg. (only +40% on my gear, one handed tree maxed)
deadric dont have more armor rating than dragon nor do more dmg than dragon. The only difference is as I stated dmg is only 4 which is like 3% (at my level). Same goes with armor. If u looking for highest numbers you must go with dragon. But it will be difference really in less than 5% which is nothing compare to cap to reduce max 80% dmg as stated in this thread.
If you go with heavy armor, you dont care about weight because weight due to perk will be 0. Personally I find easier to get dragon bones/scales rather than deadric hearts. Both armors are upgraded by ebony ingots.
So difference is in design. I like deadric design a lot, but I cant hear "you actually wear armors made from dragons" or something like that ;)
if you are looking for highest dmg: max sneak skill and use daggers. if you will spam your crouch fast enough you can be invisible all the time so all ur attacks will do 30x more dmg. Daggers do around 100dmg. with one handed it will be higher so dmg could be 4000 !
